An afternoon surge lifted the Nasdaq to a 1.1% gain Tuesday after the index spent most of the day in negative territory. The Nasdaq 100 rose 1.3%. Volume was below average.
Marvell Technology Group logged a 52-week high, up 2.15 to 36.50. Pacific Crest Securities boosted the storage and communications chip maker to a strong buy from a buy. It's grown sales by double or triple digits for at least 14 straight quarters. Its chipmaking group ranks No. 7 of IBD's 197 industries.
Career Education Corp. posted an all-time high of 71.45, up 3.15. The stock hasn't touched its 50-day moving average in five months. The post-secondary education provider said it's completed its merger with Whitman Education Group. The deal's transaction enterprise value is about $245 million.
Kronos rose 1.23 to 52.08 on fast turnover. The data collection systems maker leads its 44-stock Computer-Integrated Systems group in Overall, Technical and Fundamental ranks, available from IBD Stock Checkup at investors.com.
