AirTran buys up to 110 Boeing jets
The low-fare airline ordered 10 Boeing 717s, at least 50 737-700 and -800 series planes and has options for 50 more. It's a $4 bil deal, an AirTran source said. It's a big win for Boeing, which lost its lead this year over European rival Airbus amid a prolonged slump in commercial airline buying. It's also a sign AirTran is steadying after nearly shutting down after 9-11. Discount carriers have been flourishing.

American Air plans service cuts

The AMR unit is reviewing everything from key routes to airport slots to its three major hubs to maintenance facilities. American also furloughed 3,100 attendants after a court rejected union objections.
