Guidant agrees to report defects
The deal with the Dept. of Health and Human Services is a last step in the medical device maker's June 12 Justice Dept. settlement over the now-discontinued Ancure Endograft. The cardiovascular device has been linked to 28 deaths, 12 of those hidden from authorities. Guidant has pleaded guilty to 10 felony counts and will pay $92.4 mil.
** Guidant still faces 16 civil lawsuits and possible class actions.
