Three Canadian firms merge bulk operations

Three Canadian shipping companies are merging their bulk shipping operations in order to reduce costs in a declining market. Canada Steamship Lines Inc, of Montreal, Misener Holdings Ltd of St Catherines, Ontario, and James Richardson & Sons Ltd of Winnipeg, are creating a new company under the name Great Lakes Bulk Carriers.

|By bringing all three carriers together, we'll be able to get better operating efficiencies,' said Fred Pitre, President of Canada Steamship Lines.

Canada Steamships will contribute eight vessels to the partnership, while Misener will contribute five and Richardson three. The companies …
