HP says grid computing grew out of a concept called "utility computing," pioneered in the late 1980s by HP Laboratories.
The concept focuses on computers sharing data and working together.
HP is focusing on potential commercial users of grid computing, including the financial, manufacturing, retail and energy sectors.
