Africa seeks 2,000 U.S. troops

West African leaders pledged to send 3,000 peacekeepers to Liberia if 2,000 U.S. troops join them. Both sides in Liberia's civil war have asked the U.S. to intervene. France, Britain and U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan also have sought U.S. help to bring peace to the country, founded by freed American slaves in the 19th century.
