Bond sales jumped 9% in 1st half
Corporate bond issuance rose to $475 bil, lead by a 66% surge in junk bonds to $64.8 bil and a 33% rise in convertible bonds to $58.97 bil. Investment-grade issuance was flat at $351.3 bil. GM led first-half issuance with last week's record $17.6 bil in corporate bonds and convertible debt to shore up its pension.

Sina.com ups its Q2 EPS forecast
Shares of the Chinese Web portal, already soaring this year on a fast-growing market for cell-phone text messaging, rose 16% to a new high of 20.25. It sees 13-15 cents, 65% over earlier forecasts, on sales of $24-$25 mil, 73% over. Rivals rose, too: Sohu.com 8% and Netease.com 7%. Sina also is raising $80 mil via corporate bonds.
