Wal-Mart's WNY entrance won't be limited to Falls

Now that Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has decided to open its first Western New York locations in Niagara Falls, look for the retailing giant to hit the area with several other outlets.

Real estate sources indicate Batavia may be the next likely spot for a Wal-Mart. The company reportedly is talking with Batavia officials about opening a store later this year.

Analysts say Batavia is a natural bridge between Wal-Mart's three Rochester area operations and Western New York.

"They are not coming into Western New York just to open one Wal-Mart and one Sam's (Sam's Wholesale Club)," said Kurt Barnard, publisher of Retail Marketing Report, a New York newsletter.

Wal-Mart officials could not be reached for comment.
