HEMET, Calif. -- TONY ROMA, whose 1972 founding of a namesake restaurant in North Miami spawned a worldwide ribs specialty chain of more than 260 branches, died here Friday of lung cancer. He was 78. Roma, who spent $65,000 to open that first restaurant, Tony Roma's Place, was remembered by associates as a sociable, colorful person who excelled at customer relations.
