It's not one of Giorgio Giugiaro's better known prototypes, but probably only because it got blown up soon after being sold in 1970.

The VW Porsche Tapiro was unveiled at the 1970 Turin motor show alongside the Pininfarina Modulo and Bertone Stratos. Using the Porsche 914/916 architecture, it is often cited by Giorgio's son Fabrizio as the starting point for his informal initiation in automotive design. Tapiro-the Italian word for tapir, a tropical nocturnal hoofed mammal the size of a big dog that keeps its nose mostly to the ground-was one of Giugiaro's earliest in a long line of wedge-shaped supercars. The Alfa Romeo Iguana came just prior, and the Maserati Bora and Lotus Esprit (and many others including the DeLorean DMC 12) after.
