Magazine publisher IPC Media faced low staff motivation at the beginning of 2001. According to its first internal marketing opinion survey, only 23% of marketing staff were happy in their jobs and staff turnover was high, at 28%, in 2000.
A group marketing director was appointed and a new marketing structure was put in place. A marketing executive comprising all senior marketing directors across the company was set up and met monthly, and an annual pounds 75,000 internal marketing budget was secured.
A marketing vision, purpose and set of values were identified and a marketing logo was developed.
