2003 JUN 12 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Genesis Bioventures, Inc., (GBI) announced that the University of Michigan has granted exclusive worldwide licensing rights to the company for diagnostic uses of the mammastatin technology.
Mammastatin is a protein that has been found in studies to be present in the blood of most healthy women and absent, or in low levels, in the blood of most breast cancer patients or women known to be at high risk for developing breast cancer.
Research has shown that measuring the level of mammastatin in serum samples may be a useful breast health assessment tool, particularly as it relates to risk of developing breast cancer. A recent peer-reviewed publication in the March 2003 issue of IVD (In Vitro Diagnostics) Technology describes the technology and study results in more detail.
