Byline: Brian Deagon
7 Four years ago, entering college with plans to get a degree in computer science or information systems management seemed a great idea.
In 1999, the tech industry was red-hot and getting hotter.
It was also a market top, in many ways, for the average starting salaries for graduates in these fields.
Not that all is lost. Far from it. The average starting salary for graduates with degrees in computer science this year is a respectable $46,535.
But it's down 7.6% from a year ago and the fifth straight year of decline, according to the National Association of College and Employers. Starting salaries for graduates in information systems management are down 5% to $41,543.
"Four years ago, if you had a computer science degree you had the world in your hands, but that's not to say five years from now it won't come back," said Camille Luckenbaugh, employment information manager at NACE.
