NYSE stocks closed a bullish week in style Friday. The Dow rose 1.6% for the day, 2.9% for the week. The S&P 500 climbed 1.5%, 3.2% for the week. The small-cap S&P 600 outperformed the major NYSE indexes, jumping 1.9% for the day, 5.3% for the week, continuing their recent winning streak.
Hovnanian Enterprises continued its stranglehold atop the NYSE Real Most Active column. The home builder surged 2.50 to a new high of 57.95 on twice its normal trade. That's the eighth up day in a row for the stock, which broke out May 7.

Hovnanian again had company from other fast-moving home builders. Meritage ramped up 1.18 to 47.18 on two times its usual turnover, good for a new closing high.
