Air Canada, pilots face deadline
An Ontario judge, citing a "perilous and ultraprecarious" situation, gave the airline and its 3,400 pilots until midnight Saturday to reach a wage-cut deal that's key to Air Canada's restructuring plan. If they don't, the court could impose a settlement that could include full bankruptcy. The carrier already is under court protection from creditors.
United backing off low-cost plan
The bankrupt airline won't make a low-cost unit the core of its comeback, The New York Times reported. United says it wants to focus on the lucrative business travel segment. Also, United's unions won't agree to lower pay at a low-fare unit. And Delta and American Air have stepped up low-fare efforts, making the skies crowded.
