2003 JUN 5 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Detroit-based research company Asterand announced that it is lowering costs of research materials for breast cancer to help draw attention to a charity event called "The Race for the Cure."
Although the event is local, the company is contacting researchers around the world with a series of special offers and has pledged to make a contribution to the charity for every research project initiated with Asterand materials before the start of the race.
"We have some really valuable collections of research material that we believe will accelerate the discovery of new diagnostics and drugs," says Randal Charlton, Asterand's CEO. "Many researchers are facing reduced budgets and we have to be responsive to the tougher economic climate. Asterand has one of the world's most valuable collections of human tissue, blood samples, and data for breast cancer research. Thousands of samples of both diseased and normal tissue have been collected from all over the world. In addition Asterand manages a bank of material from patients that have been followed for over 20 years."
