As employer interest in consumer-driven health plans grows, a variety of online tools are emerging to help employees determine whether the plans are suited to their needs.

In addition, some of the software products are designed to aid employers that are merely investigating whether to offer a consumer-driven plan or those that have implemented such a plan and need to prepare employees for its rollout.

As employers add new plans to their health benefit offerings-particularly high-deductible plans-it is important for employees to be armed with the information they need to make the right choice about enrollment.

"There are more types of plans that make it harder to choose,'' said Cathy Tripp, national practice leader for health and welfare technology at Watson Wyatt Worldwide in Minneapolis.
