Get a Stay-Put Veil
Since you've probably given veils about five seconds' thought before now, choosing from the variety of long, short, lacy, etc., versions can be overwhelming. You'll just have to experiment. As important as finding the right style however is selecting one that won't fall victim to overzealous hugs. Your best bet is a veil that is already attached to a hair comb. "A fine wire comb is the best way to attach it to your hair, since it shouldn't budge once you insert it," says NYC stylist and salon owner John Barrett, who worked on Catherine Zeta-Jones's wedding-day do. Barrett's stay-put strategies:
* In the spot where you plan to attach the veil, create a secure base by teasing a section of hair, then combing it down and slipping the comb in at the top of it.
* Since you can never be too safe, use two bobby pins to reinforce the comb by crisscrossing them over it but hiding them under the top layer of your hair.
