MORRISON: Any criticisms of the 2.5 Z4 are rectified by the 3.0-liter. The too-short first gear is gone. The added power and six-speed box of this car offer plenty of speed and revs, and the standing-start experience is greatly enhanced. I think the knee padding that's on the side of the center console is pretty cool: When you go ripping around corners, you can brace your right leg up against the transmission tunnel in comfort. I'd like to see this on all performance cars. I guess the only question is whether I would take (or even consider) this over a Boxster, which can be had for pretty much the same price. Probably not, though I would be really interested in driving the two back to back, especially on a track. For some reason, I have the impression the Boxster is a bit easier to drive.
