Rajib Chatterjee in Chandernagore May 11. - Way back on 14 October 1991, Mr Subhas Chakraborty, transport minister of the state, while laying the foundation stone for this project, had described it as the "dream of Chandernagore". More than a decade later the promised indoor stadium, on a two bigha plot, continues to remain a dream.

Now with the entire state reeling under the acute financial crisis, the possibilities of this dream ever manifesting seems distinctly fainter. But are funds all that is lacking? Hasn't the stand-off between the authorities - of the CPI-M-controlled corporation and the Opposition - delayed the stadium …
