Readers responding to our March 31 SPECIAL REPORT on the start of hostilities in Iraq all took umbrage at the strike's official name, "shock and awe." While one letter writer faulted "the insensitivity of George W. Bush," another retorted, " 'Shock and awe'? I'd call it 'barbarism and shame'."

It seems inconceivable to me that anyone could name a bombing attack "Shock and Awe" ("Images of 'Shock and Awe'," March 31). This surely indicates the insensitivity of George W.
