The following is a message from Ambassador Dorian Prince, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to the Republic of Korea, on the occasion of Europe Day. - Ed.

On May 9 we celebrate Europe Day. European integration has delivered half a century of stability, peace and prosperity. It has helped to raise standards of living, built an internal market, launched the euro and strengthened the Union's voice in the world.

Extending peace in Europe The European Union was set up after W. W. 2. The process of European integration was launched on May 9, 1950 when French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman presented his proposal on the creation of an organized Europe, indispensable to the maintenance of peaceful relations. Six countries (Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Luxembourg and the Netherlands) joined from the very beginning. After four waves of …
