English teacher, New York City Fearless factor: I'd always wanted to do standup comedy, but it totally terrified me. Finally, I got the courage to sign up for amateur night at a comedy club. That first time was nerve-racking--there were more than 100 people there. When I was done, I felt like I'd climbed a mountain. Since then, rye performed more than a dozen times, and I've even won a few competitions!

Fun factor: I'm learning how to play the djembe drums so I can join the drum circles in the parks this summer. In class, we all practice different rhythms, finding our own beats but staying in sync with the group. Banging those drums is an amazing release. It's calming and energizing.
