DEPOSED President Joseph Estrada yesterday assailed law enforcement officials for continually dragging his name in raising the security alert over possible Labor Day violence.
"There are many issues justifying street rallies today-PPA, double standard of justice, government anomalies-and I have nothing to do with these," he said in reaction to reports that authorities are bracing for "pro-Estrada" demonstrators, among others, who are expected today to mark the second anniversary of their bloody siege of Malacanang.
"Pro-Erap sila nang pro-Erap," he said, referring to the National Bureau of Investigation and the Philippine National Police. "They should stop using my name. It's overused."
Estrada, detained for two years now on charges of plunder, said he personally wished that his supporters rather not "waste time and effort" staging mass actions. But he said "I can't stop them" if they still want to.
"I just appeal to them to be calm and sober and keep their rallies peaceful," he told the Inquirer.
