Hong Kong's air pollution levels soared to their highest level in three months yesterday as a light northerly wind brought pollution particles in from the mainland.

The roadside air pollution index (API) rose past 100 in five areas and prompted the Environmental Protection Department to issue a health warning to people with heart and respiratory disease urging them to stay indoors.

The highest API level was in Central, which reached 137 at 1pm, up from 121 at 6am. Other areas badly hit were Causeway Bay and Mongkok, with roadside readings of 129 and 127 respectively at 1pm. The level was …
