SAP beats views amid tech slump

The German software giant's profit rose 28% to $331 mil, 16% over views. Profit margins improved. But software license sales fell 19% to $384 mil, 11% under forecasts. Total sales fell 8% to $1.6 bil. Still, SAP managed to gain market share. Rivals PeopleSoft and Siebel have warned they'll miss Q1 views as the Iraq war and poor economy hit spending. SAP rose 8%.

Wipro falls 3% on wide Q4 miss

Net profit for the India-based firm, which sells cut-rate computer programming services, fell 5% to $47.5 mil, 8% below views. Sales grew 33% to $261 mil, but margins fell as the firm cut prices to fend off …
