ALBUMS COMMENTARY
A combination of new albums by Linkin Park, Simply Red and Celine Dion and Mother's Day gift-buying boosted the albums market by 47% last week to a year's best tally of 3,249,000, of which artist albums accounted for 2,520,000. Both figures are the highest yet of 2003, and compare more than favourably with last year's Mother's Day/Easter figures. Mother's Day fell three weeks earlier last year and produced an 11.3% jump in sales to 2,723,000, while the last week in March last year was actually Easter week and produced a 38.2% increase in sales to 3,053,000.
