Uterine fibroid embolization is a medical procedure that injects embolic agents into the uterine arteries to block smaller arteries from feeding blood flow to the fibroids. Without blood supply, the fibroids eventually shrink; often relieving women of heavy bleeding associated with the fibroids. Uterine fibroid embolization may provide a potential option to invasive surgical procedures such as a hysterectomy.
