A far-reaching project to upgrade 100 public spaces in the capital is in danger of collapse following the Greater London Assembly's announcement that it plans to cut its urban renaissance budget by [pounds sterling]100,000.

The scheme, to be launched by London mayor Ken Living-stone this May, would create new parks and squares throughout the city. But unless the [pounds sterling]100,000 is forthcoming, the groundbreaking project could be dead on its feet.
