THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, April 16. KERALA, the first landfall for the southwest monsoon, is planning to lend a fresh thrust to its rainwater harvesting programmes by seeking to directly 'trap' the tropical weather system from this season.

The State Water Resources Minister, Mr T.M. Jacob, told Business Line that the State Government was preparing to popularise rainwater harvesting by kicking off the programme during the monsoon season just ahead and expanding the coverage gradually through the next monsoon years. "The idea is to have a reasonably good Statewide coverage by the year 2005," he said.
