It has won awards from the New England Newspaper Association and New England Press Association. In 2007 the Portland Press Herald was investigated by the state, as well as several anti-hate organizations, for publishing two anti-semitic ads: one from the First Baptist Church of South Portland and the other from People's Choice Credit Union, in the space of two weeks. Portland Press Herald's management apologized and cited that it would pay more attention to the content of its advertisers. Richard L. Connor is the editor, publiser and owner.
