Tentative deal ends Vancouver strike threat.
February 23, 2009... A threatened work stoppage that would have idled container and other traffic at British Columbia ports ended last week with a tentative agreement between negotiators for 450 unionized dock forepersons and the British Columbia Maritime Employers' Association.

Container volume plummets at Long Beach.
February 23, 2009... Just released statistics from the Port of Long Beach show a container slowdown of 23.4 percent, a decrease greater than earlier predicted.
In January, 200,588 TEUs of loaded imports crossed the port's docks. That was 23.3 percent lower than the 261,543 TEUs imported in January 2008.
