Peak oil: diesel fuel prices offered shippers and carriers a mid-summer respite last week after the prices, and the transportation world's ability to absorb higher costs, appeared to reach a boiling point. After a nearly two-month run-up, the average U.S. price of diesel was about one-and-a-half cents less than it was the week before.
