Frequently asked questions

What is AccessMyLibrary?

AccessMyLibrary partners with libraries throughout the United States and Canada to provide free access to over 30 million articles from premium sources you can trust. Our goal is to help you access information from credible sources while making the offerings of local libraries more accessible. We do this by using our technology to help people find content available at libraries that search engines usually cannot access. AccessMyLibrary also includes articles from HighBeam Research, which includes archives from more than 6,500 publications.

Do I need a library membership to use AccessMyLibrary?

No. All you need is a valid e-mail address and postal code. Once you log in with that information, you'll have access to over 30 million full-text articles.

What does it cost?

There's no charge. AccessMyLibrary lets you browse and read over 30 million articles absolutely free!

Does AccessMyLibrary benefit libraries?

Yes. One of our goals is to direct more people to libraries. We've heard from librarians that it can be difficult to effectively market a library's value to students and communities. They also told us the popularity of search engines has made it even more challenging to make sure students and patrons start their search for information in their libraries. By letting search engines see portions of a library's content for the first time, users of search engines will discover this premium content and enjoy convenient access to the full-text versions of that content through local libraries. The libraries gain increased exposure of their resources and increased usage of the products in which they invest. This helps libraries reach individuals in their community – even if these users didn't intend to go to the library.

Does AccessMyLibrary benefit publishers?

Yes. AccessMyLibrary will help users of search engines locate information previously invisible to them. Users will discover valuable new content and build a strong association with the source of that content – the publisher. This creates brand awareness and broadens a publisher's reach while introducing new customers to publications and services. Many journal and magazine publishers have a strong interest in getting their message out to the largest audience possible. AccessMyLibrary supports this mission by engaging all types of researchers – from the casual to the serious.
